GCRF START is a grant-funded project, which aims to develop close interactions between researchers in the UK and those across Africa, through collaborative work and networking events. START has hosted numerous workshops focused on specific topics spanning from data analysis, science based meetings, remote operation of the beamlines at Diamond and events to build the network. START members have also presented work at international conferences including the African Materials Science Research Society meetings in Botswana (2017) and Tanzania (2019), the Pan African Conference on Crystallography and the Second African Light Source Conference in Ghana (2019). We aim to support events that open up the opportunities available at synchrotron facilities to researchers across Africa, in the fields of energy materials and structural biology research.
Upcoming Events
2021 African Neutron & Synchrotron Data Analysis Competency (ANSDAC.com) workshop
After one year of hiatus, ANSDAC is back in a virtual format!! In three afternoon blocks, local and international experts from industry and academia will discuss and present basics in X-ray diffraction, X-ray absorption and neutron diffraction & spectroscopy. Attendees will be able to directly engage with different software packages, both commercial and freeware, and time is allocated to small group tutorials. The preliminary program can be accessed here.
Virtual Workshops (Hosted at University of Cape Town UCT) on:
5-8 July
12-16 July

Attendance remains free but spaces are limited and registration is compulsory.
Registration will be open from the 1st of June and closes on the 15th of June.
Preference will be given to young faculty researchers who can demonstrate their willingness to act as ‘super spreader’ in their home institutions after the workshop. Please share this information within your networks and institutions.

GCRF START also has a discussion forum that outlines how the Diamond synchrotron operates, networking with the consortium and identifying research opportunities, if you would like to be involved, please contact the forum Co-ordinator Felicity Bertram at GCRF_START@diamond.ac.uk.
